Understanding Your Insurance
INSURANCE
How much does physical therapy cost? How much will I owe for my physical therapy treatment? Do I need a referral for physical therapy?
Two main factors to consider, who is responsible for paying the cost and what is the condition to be treated.
Who is responsible for paying the cost? The responsible payer depends on the source of your condition. Do you have an injury, or did your condition slowly develop over time? Health insurance covers physical therapy, but if your injury was a result of an accident, there might be some other insurance that is responsible.
What is the condition to be treated? Are you experiencing pain, loss of mobility, or both? Does the condition involve just one area such as your back or does the condition involve multiple areas such as your back, neck, and shoulder?
Do I need a referral from my doctor? Arkansas law does not require a patient to have a doctor’s referral for physical therapy treatment. However, some insurance companies do require a referral. Medicare and workers compensation cases always require a referral from your doctor.
What if I don’t have insurance? If you don’t have insurance and there is no other responsible party we have a self-pay rate. This rate is only available if there is no other responsible party. We can apply this rate because of the reduced cost of office expenses.
We are experts at helping you determine the answers to these questions and to estimate the amount that would be your responsibility. You can learn more about physical therapy and insurance at APTA – Move Forward.
